Mission Statement: Our commitment is to promote the educational and spiritual development of young children in a Christian environment.
Preschool History: Bascomb United Methodist Preschool was started in 1986 as a Mothers' Morning Out Program with two classes and was located in the original part of Bascomb Church, which has been in existence since 1830. The preschool grew and for a while, was housed on two levels, including the original building and the downstairs classroom area that was built in 1997. The preschool then relocated to its present location in 2003 and now serves approximately 100 families. In the fall of 2005, the preschool built a state-of-the art playground, which is now being enjoyed by the preschool and the community as well.
Teaching Philosophy and Curriculum: Bascomb Preschool practices a hands-on learning approach, in keeping with the philosophy that children learn by doing. In the daily routine of the classroom, teachers will provide direct experience and exploration of the environment in order to provide active learning for the children. The Letter Person program serves as the four-year curriculum, while the threes and twos experience weekly themes organized into social studies units. . In addition, the preschool offers music classes and chapel once a week as part of the curriculum. The Bascomb Preschool curriculum is designed to offer opportunity for language, cognitive, social, and physical development.
